Altus AFB will host the 27th annual AAFB cattle drive on August 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

The 97th Air Mobility Wing Commander, Col. Richard Kind, along with other base leadership, will lead more than 30 longhorn cattle on a three-mile drive around the installation, a tradition that started August 26, 1999.

The cattle drive carries on the tradition of “The Great Western Trail,” a path that over 6 million cattle and 1 million horses travelled during the late 19th century.

The Cattle Drive will start and end at the soccer fields and will make stops at the static display by Building 87 and the Youth Center. Please be mindful of safety considerations and do not block roads or approach animals without permission from rodeo personnel.

This event will impact traffic through the main gate and main roads on base from approximately 0900-1200.

If you have any questions, please contact Altus AFB Public Affairs at (580) 481-7700, or by email at 97amw.pa@us.af.mil.

The 97th Air Mobility Wing serves as “Mobility’s Hometown”- training 80% of the Air Force’s mobility aircrew on the C-17 Globemaster III, KC-135 Stratotanker, and KC-46 Pegasus.
