Altus Air Force Base gears up for Fire Prevention Week Published Sept. 25, 2013 By 020913 ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Altus AFB Fire Department will host Fire Prevention Week October 6-12, 2013 to celebrate and promote fire safety with this year's theme, "Prevent Kitchen Fires." Displays and demonstrations will be held at various locations around the base, meant to encourage families to prioritize fire escape planning and practice, and also to showcase actions firefighters must accomplish in their emergency response activities. Events throughout the week include the 3rd annual Group Commander and First Sergeant challenge, where competitors take part in a charged hose drag, victim drag, sledgehammer forcible entry exercise and a hose raise; the Fire Muster competition, hose roll, victim rescue, and bunker gear protective clothing race; the Firecracker Fun Run; Fire Engine parade through housing; and Open House at the fire station.
