    Many Airmen have passed through Mobility's Hometown since its activation as a multi-engine flight training school in 1943, the majority of whom regard Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma as a temporary stop for a small time in their careers. For some, however, Altus becomes much more than a short-term landing place.

    Rivers Elementary School began their school year, August 17, 2020, at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma. Altus Public Schools implemented a Return to Learn protocol in order for students and staff to return to school safely.

    Col. William Mickley, 97th Operations Group commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Jason Hall, 97th Operations Group command chief, present the first Oklahoma Flag flown on the KC-46A Pegasus to the 97th Air Mobility Wing to the president of the Chamber of Commerce, June 7, 2019, at Altus, Okla. The flag was a gift to the Chamber for their support of the 97th Air Mobility Wing. Mickley also spoke to Rodger Kerr, Altus Chamber of Commerce president, about finding ways to improve the lives of Airmen and families of the 97th Air Mobility Wing. The Chamber of Commerce supports the base and its families in a variety of ways, including providing job opportunities, hosting community-wide events in the city and welcoming members to the local area.
  • April Marks the Month of the Military Child at the 97 AMW

    The 97th Air Mobility Wing kicked off Month of the Military Child with a walking parade featuring members of the fire department, security forces and military children with their families, April 1, 2019. April is the Month of the Military Child - a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families worldwide, with an emphasis on the experience of the dependent children of military members serving at home and overseas.

    Hannah Bradley, daughter of U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Denoah Bradley, 97th Mission Support Group deputy commander, and Kimberly Bradley was named the 97th Air Mobility Wing’s 2018 Youth of the Year. Being named Youth of The Year is the highest award a member of the Altus AFB Teen Programs can receive.
  • Caring for Spouses: a Deployed Spouse Spa Day

    The 97th Air Mobility Wing, in conjunction with the Southwest Technology Center and the United Services Organization, offered a free spa day for families with a deployed family member, Jan. 12, 2018, at the Southwest Technology Center, Okla.
  • Heartlink Spouse Orientation: Empowers spouses through integration

    Whether it is a military member’s first, next or last duty station, traveling to a new location is almost inevitable in a military career. Having to start over is difficult for the whole family, requiring them to learn about a new base’s mission, location and people. In order to ease the process of base familiarization, Altus AFB hosts a Heartlink Spouse Orientation program.
