  • 97 LRS improves total force capability for ANG unit

    Recruitment is the lifeblood of the United States military. It brings people from different origins and backgrounds come together to be trained and assigned to military missions around the world. Similarly many leaders through the military place great value in diversity and the dynamic elements it infuses into a unit.
  • 97th CES bolsters deployment capabilities

    Airmen from the 97th CES held a Prime Base Engineer Emergency Force exercise to bolster downrange readiness, May 25 to 26, 2021. The exercise tests the base engineer emergency force on their ability to stand up operations in any location. In the deployed environment, it is a civil engineer’s duty to build, maintain and, if needed, defend or repair base infrastructure. The goal for this exercise was to build five huts and defense barriers to practice performing their primary duties in a deployed environment.
  • Altus AFB Airmen exercise severe weather, rapid airpower response

    Approximately 29 aircraft could be seen over the skies of Southwest Oklahoma, April 2, 2021, as Airmen of the 97th Air Mobility Wing exercised their ability to evacuate a large number of aircraft in a short amount of time. The planes were launched as part of a severe weather exercise, testing the base’s ability to relocate aircraft before impending storms - something many consider necessary due to Altus’ geographic location.
  • 97 SFS receives female body armor

    Female Airmen of the 97th Security Forces Squadron received the first batch of newly created and issued Female Body Armor, in early March 2021. The FBA features increased mobility, load carriage support, and comfort while still maintaining coverage of vital organs. The new armor is one of the Air Force Chief of Staff’s initiatives and was created by the Female Fitment Program Office. Their mission is to identify problems and quickly find solutions for gear and uniform items to better equip female Airmen.
  • 97 MDG administers their first COVID-19 vaccines

    Airmen from the 97th Medical Group distributed their first batch of COVID-19 vaccines on Jan.15, 2021, at Altus Air Force Base. The medical group, along with the DoD is following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention prioritization guidelines for vaccine distribution to members of the base populace. The vaccine that the base received is administered in two doses 28 days apart. For the vaccine to work most effectively, members must follow up for their second dose.
  • 97 AMW extends outreach - trains Altus PD on suicide awareness

    Officers from the City of Altus Police Department extended their knowledge during a first responder suicide awareness training on December 9, 2020, at the APD.
  • 97 MDG highlights readiness to AETC surgeon general team

    Medical leadership from Air Education and Training Command in Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, visited Altus Air Force Base to take part in an immersion tour of the 97th Medical Group, Dec. 3, 2020. The immersion tour showcased the 97th MDG’s readiness capabilities to Col. Michael Higgins, Air Education and Training Command command surgeon, and Chief Master Sgt. Janet Woodard, AETC chief, medical enlisted force for the office of the command surgeon. The tour focused on the COVID-19 screening process, surveillance testing plans and general readiness of the 97th MDG.
  • 97 AMW in Photos: assembling mobility aircrew training

    The 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron Airmen play a crucial role in the primary training mission at Mobility’s Hometown. One such task is training qualified C-17 Globemaster III loadmasters to be certified in airdrop training.
