  • From Airmen to Guardians: 6 Altus Airmen transfer into U.S. Space Force

    Six Airmen from Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma have been accepted into the U.S. Space Force and will transfer to the new branch by the end of 2021. On May 1, 2020, the USSF opened an application period, giving U.S. Air Force active duty members in eligible career fields the opportunity to transfer into the new service.

    When thinking of airspace, one might assume that the chances of two aircraft colliding while in the air is pretty low. In reality, there are tens of thousands of planes in the air at any given point. Additionally, variables such as bad weather and low visibility make flying a feat that can’t be accomplished with aircrew alone. This is where the 97th Operational Support Squadron Radar Approach Control Flight comes in.
  • Recycling: Do it on Base!

    As the saying goes, every gray cloud has a silver lining. Recently, Balfour Beatty, the base’s privatized housing company made the hard decision to forego their residential recycling program. However, through a combined effort between 97th Air Mobility Wing leaders and Balfour Beatty, the Altus Air Force Base recycling center will allow the recycling effort to continue. So, in this case, Altus Air Force Base’s silver lining is its very own recycling program.
  • First in AETC: KC-46s refuel F-16 fighters

    In a first for Air Education and Training Command and the 56th Air Refueling Squadron, two KC-46 Pegasus aircraft from the 97th Air Mobility Wing at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, along with 10 F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 49th Wing at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, teamed up in the skies over New Mexico to train and practice air refueling operations.

  • Another ‘step’ in maintaining the mission

    At the 97th Air Mobility Wing, aircrew are trained daily on the C-17 Globemaster III, KC-46 Pegasus and the KC-135 Stratotanker. While training occurs, the 97th Maintenance Group continuously works to keep the mission moving forward. When the 97th MXG discovers a need for a unique item, the fabrication flight can provide in-house creation. In this case, the flight constructed a three step staircase used to support the C-17 Engine Maintenance Stands.
  • 97th LRS SMSgt wins MAJCOM award

    A member of the 97th Air Mobility Wing was named the 2019 Air Education and Training Command (AETC) General Lew Allen Jr. Trophy award winner. Allen was the 10th Chief of Staff of the Air Force, whose legacy was attention to detail and technical expertise and he credits the accomplishments of base-level officers and senior NCOs in their performance with the mission.
  • 97 CES Concludes Fire Prevention Week with Parade

    For Fire Prevention Week this year, the 97th Civil Engineer Squadron ended its festivities with a parade through base housing and an open house at the Fire Station, Sept. 28, at Altus Air Force Base, Okla.
