The 56th Air Refueling Squadron patch is the same emblem as when the C-5 Galaxy flew under the 56th Airlift Squadron, but has a new moto: “Novi Aut Peri” which means “innovate or perish.” The larger bird, with mortar board, represents the instructors that have completed all requirments to be a trainer and the smaller bird represents the students, ready to be molded. The 56th AS has served the U.S. Air Force since 1942, and has been stationed around the globe and will be reactivated Aug. 30, 2016, as the formal training unit for the KC-46 Pegasus refueling aircraft.
