ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 97th Air Mobility Wing will be conducting an active shooter and Antiterrorism exercise on Altus Air Force Base on May 31, 2023.
The main gate will be closed for approximately 10 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. All base personnel and individuals with business on the installation are encouraged to avoid entry or exit during this time.
Base personnel, residents and visitors may also hear simulated gun fire, exercise alerts over the giant voice system, and alert radio messages from the hours of 8:30 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. Base services will be limited during these hours due to the complex nature of this type of exercise. Emergency response vehicles and first responders will be responding accordingly for this exercise.
Exercises of this nature are critical for evaluating Department of Defense response actions to a lockdown incident and to prepare for this in the most realistic manner. Base and community personnel have been and will continue to be focused on improving response plans for the safety of everyone on the installation.
For further information about the exercise, contact the 97th Public Affairs Office at (580) 481-7700.
The 97th Air Mobility Wing serves as “Mobility’s Hometown,” training 70% of the Air Force’s mobility aircrew on the C-17 Globemaster III, KC-135 Stratotanker, and KC-46 Pegasus.
