New program to replace ASITS

ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --  The Inspector General's office will be implementing a new program November 2012 to more efficiently manage valuable resources in each unit for the next round of base self inspections.

"Units can expect the Altus Self Inspection Tracking System to be replaced with the Management Internal Control Toolset, which is an Air Force-wide program, by late summer or early fall of this year," said Tech. Sgt. David Thomas, 97th Air Mobility Wing IG superintendent.

Each unit's self inspection manager will use MICT to provide fact-based information on their performance for the base commander.

"It is the self inspection manager's job to document the areas in their units that are not in compliance and also document what procedures will be done to fix those problems," said Mr. Boone Nicolls, 97th AMW inspector general.

"With this program we can ensure that when headquarters comes to the base to conduct a Consolidated Unit Inspection, there will be no surprises," Nicolls said.

The last self inspections took place during May 2012.

"As a wing, we completed 441 self inspection checklists across four groups, 16 wing staff agencies and we self identified 265 write-ups using ASITS," said Maj. Lauren Palagi, 97th AMW deputy inspector general. "If we identify our own deficiencies now, we can work to fix them prior to the arrival of the inspection team and do even better on our next [Consolidated Unit] inspection."

"Since May self inspections have been completed, units can expect the IG office to continue closed deficiency validations as well as conduct limited notice and no-notice inspections," Thomas said.

Also, the IG office stressed the three Air Education and Training Command emphasis areas.

"The three AETC emphasis areas include the Privacy Act, records management, and equipment management," Thomas said. "The IG office asks that units pay close attention to these areas because they will be inspected."
