Captain Benjamin Shaub is the recipient of both the 97th Air Mobility Wing and 97th Training Squadron Company Grade Officer awards for the first quarter of 2010.

The Altus AFB quarterly awards program is a very important part of taking care of our people and recognizing the outstanding performers among us. "We must do what we can to ensure these performers are recognized for their superb efforts, using the 'whole person' concept as a template," said Chief Master Sergeant Eric Molloy, 97th Air Mobility Wing command chief.

When asked what Shaub credits his awards to, he said, "All the folks that helped me out. Also, my leadership for nominating me for the numerous projects, and trusting that I would do a decent job."

Shaub is the Operations Goup Executive Officer for the 97th Training Squadron. He is also a KC-135 instructor pilot assigned to the 54th Air Refueling Squadron. Prior to starting the executive officer position, he was the Tanker Student Flight Commander - a position overseeing all the KC-135 student pilots and assisting them with administrative issues.

Among other achievements, Shaub tailored a training program for Chilean and Singaporean KC-135 students with no timeline changes. He completed six credits for a "Homeland Security" course, reading over 700 pages of material and graduating with a 4.0 grade point average. He was also selected for the Dean's list. Shaub was the Wing Project Officer for the annual awards banquet leading five committees with over 300 attendees and honoring 44 peers.

Shaub gives his words of wisdom to others who would like similar recognition -- "Volunteer for things that are above and beyond your normal duties," said Shaub.

Hailing from Billings, Montana, Capt. Shaub graduated from Billings Central High School and Montana State University.

Shaub, along with the other winners, is set to compete in the 97th Air Mobility Wing 2010 Annual Awards.
