Rivers Pre-K Transportation Published April 28, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Jennifer Seidl 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The Child Development Center has discontinued offering transportation to the pre-K program at Mendel L. Rivers elementary school. "This difficult decision was made to bring the Altus CDC in line with Air Force CDC program guidance. We never want to take anything away that people are benefiting from." Said Don Cook, Force Support Squadron Deputy. The Air Force CDC program does not authorize funding or manning for before or after care at the pre-Kindergarten (four year old) level. Due to the fact that the pre-K program is an optional program, not required by the State of Oklahoma, our Altus CDC could no longer support transportation to and from the school. Mr. Anthony Raas, Chief of the 97th Air Mobility Wing Family Support Flight, encourages parents to use the CDC's services through your children's fourth year until they are ready to join the Rivers Kindergarten program. Colonel Noel Zamot, 97th Air Mobility Wing Mission Support Group commander, said for those parents who choose to use the Rivers pre-K program, Mr. Robert Bowers, Altus School Liason, would engage the Rivers administration to try to find a solution that works for all parties.
