The 2007 Altus Air Force Base Combined Federal Campaign kicked off Tuesday with a burger burn, exhibits from local charities and a fund raising golf tournament. The campaign runs from Nov. 6 through Dec. 6.

"This year's Combined Federal Campaign is different than in years past," said Capt. Jerry Fausch, 97th Medical Group and campaign point of contact. "It will be a month-long instead of the usual six week period. This is your one chance as a federal employee to give to any charity through payroll deduction."

This year's CFC theme is "It All Comes Back 2 you: Two minutes - that's all it takes to make a difference." With the exception of the Air Force Assistance Fund drive, CFC is the only authorized on-base fund raising campaign for Air Force civilian and military employees. Any federal employee or retiree can participate.

CFC suggests a donation of one hour's pay per month. This works out to be $180 for a staff sergeant making about $2,400 per month. Through a payroll deduction this is $7.50 per pay period. Contributions through a one-time donation are welcome as well as unit fund raisers during the campaign.

CFC supports more than charities. Major funding behind scouting programs, the American Red Cross and the on-base Child Development Center come from CFC contributions.

"A CFC guide lists local as well as national agencies that CFC supports," Captain Fausch said. "You can also divide your payroll deduction among several organizations. Your unit CFC volunteers are striving to make 100 percent contact with their unit members and can answer or refer any questions you might have." Charitable organizations that participate in CFC are reviewed and must have good standing with the Internal Revenue Service. The listing of qualifying charities shows the percentage each organization's operating percentages.
