The Altus Air Force Base Solar Inn dining facility is scheduled to close for renovations from April 26 through Sept. 1.

The renovations will help improve the dining experience for base Airmen who utilize the facility.

Altus AFB will provide substantial compensation to the Airmen living in the dorms that are meal card holders.

The Airmen are set to receive $735.84 each month as part of basic allowance for subsistence category II (BAS II).

The BAS II rates are authorized while the dining facility is closed for renovations for Airmen that reside in dormitories that do not have adequate food storage or preparation facilities.

"We're going to have a series of classes for the Airmen who have meal cards, and their supervisors, so they are briefed on a nutritional and financial aspect of what the expectations will be," said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jeffrey Gideon, 97th Force Support Squadron superintendent. "We want the Airmen to be smart with the extra money they will be receiving, and, at the same time be smart with what they are choosing to eat."

The classes available to affected Airmen and their supervisors are listed below and will all be held at the Freedom Community Center.

· March 4 beginning at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
· March 6 beginning at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
· March 18 beginning at 9 a.m.
· March 20 beginning at 9 a.m.

To help accommodate for the closure of the dining facility, the 97th FSS will be expanding their food service facilities to provide ample alternatives to Airmen who are displaced by the dining facility renovations.

Some of the 97th FSS options on Altus AFB include:

· Charlie's Lounge located at the Windy Trails Golf Course
· Club Altus
· Galaxy Grill, located in the Bowling Center
· May's Lounge, located in Club Altus
· Wild Brew Yonder, located in the Freedom Community Center

Additionally, the commissary has experienced an unexpected interruption in its deli and bakery contract. The Defense Commissary Agency apologizes for the inconvenience and is working to reopen the service.  More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Due to the additional closure of the deli and bakery inside the commissary, the 97th FSS is looking to find a way to provide deli style sandwiches at their existing facilities to give the Airmen as many options as possible while the DFAC is being renovated.

Airmen who have questions regarding the closure of the DFAC should first contact their supervisor.
