Military tuition assistance will no longer pay for fees charged by schools such as registration, lab, computer, parking etc.

University and college staffs have been requested to break down their tuition and eliminate any fees included in the tuition charged to Department of Defense personnel.

Members who are applying for tuition assistance will have to pay the fee portion of what was included in the school's tuition. For example, tuition assistance paid around 104 dollars per semester hour at Western Oklahoma State College but with the new changes, implemented basic tuition will pay around 70 dollars per semester hour.

"This affects everyone requesting tuition assistance after July 21, 2014, as members will pay for all fees," said Donald Sprague, 97th Force Support Squadron chief of education and training. "The enrollment process will not change."

For members to enroll in tuition assistance their supervisors must approve them first. The supervisor's approval ensures the individual can handle the work load and is financially stable to make the payments.

Airmen should also ensure their school has a memorandum of understanding with the Air Force before agreeing to take classes or the individual may end up paying out of pocket.

Airmen must also pass their classes with at least a C for undergraduate programs and a B for master degree programs or else they will have to pay the Air Force back.
