The Freedom Community Center held a free photography class Friday, July 18, 2014.

This class was part of a monthly photography series and this month's theme was portraits. Past topics include basic operation of the camera, flower photography and painting with light.

U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Jaime Garcia of the 97th Communications Squadron taught the class.

Garcia said he teaches the series out of his joy of photography.

"There was a lot I did not know and it took years to learn," he said. "I teach for free so people don't have to wait years."

During the class, Garcia talked about things such as what makes a portrait, different tips to enhance the quality of photograph taken and ensuring the photograph tells a story.

"It's about patience," said Garcia. "There is no such thing as a bad image. Have patience and have fun."
