The 97th Contracting Squadron was re-designated as the 97th Contracting Flight during a ceremony inside the Freedom Community Center June 25, 2014.

The ceremony also relieved U.S. Air Force Maj Roderick Edwards of command of the 97th CONS and U.S. Air Force Capt. Jon Hobart assumed command of the 97th Contracting Flight.

The ceremony started off with the national anthem, invocation and remarks from U.S. Air Force Col. Michael Greiner, 97th Mission Support Group commander.

"Bottom line, up front, there is only one thing that is going to change," said Greiner. "In a few minutes, we are going to roll up the 97th Contracting Squadron guidon and roll out the 97th Contracting Flight guidon and that is it."

Aside from the change in the name, the common theme of the message was that there will be no changes in mission or responsibility.

"It is an honor to be handed over a unit that is poised for success and I thank you all for that," said Hobart. "I would like everyone to notice a few things. First, we are still members of the same teams. Second, we still have the same mission to support the 97th AMW to forge combat mobility forces and deploy Airmen warriors."
