Airmen and family members from Altus AFB picked up trash during Clean Up Altus Oct. 26, 2013.

More than 75 volunteers braved the rain and wind to help clean up the town.

"It's just a way to give back to the community, let them know that we care, that we are thankful for them," said U.S. Air Force Chaplain Maj. Brian Clouse, who is a member of the 97th Air Mobility Wing.

Volunteers cleaned Veterans Drive, which runs along the perimeter of the base.

For U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Jacob Engle, a student from the 97th Training Squadron, it was a productive way to start his Saturday.

"It's something that's beneficial for everyone, and that's not a bad way to spend a Saturday," said Engle.

Regardless of reason or motive, this quarterly event is one way to give back to the community and take care of the environment.

"Really when it comes down to it, we're their guests here, and we want to be good neighbors," said Clouse.
