Parents and faculty members of Altus Public Schools met at Altus High School to take part in the first Getting InvolvED parenting education event March 5, 2013. The event was a joint effort between Altus Public Schools and Altus Air Force Base.

The event consisted of three break-out sessions that offered a half hour of classroom learning and discussion by educational professionals in the local area.

"The purpose of the event is to get the community to come together and learn about topics affecting children in the local schools both on and off base," said Katrina Ellis, Altus AFB school liaison officer.

The event provided parents with helpful information about prevalent school topics such as bullying, drug education, internet safety, child nutrition, emotion regulation and common core state standards.

"The program gave out a lot of great info that can help us because we have different age children and it covers the full spectrum of child education," said parents, Robert and Tammy Clements.
