Volunteers chipped and stacked pallets of bricks, Dec. 3, salvaged from a house scheduled for demolition in the housing area of Altus Air Force Base, Okla.

"We collected about 20,000 pounds of bricks which will be used for a brick paver, a memorial walkway that will be built across the street from the Airman Leadership School," Tech. Sgt. Roger Littlefield, Altus AFB Airman Leadership School flight chief, said. "The plan is for two brick pavers, one on each side of our flag pole. The left side will honor the combat veterans who have been guest speakers at the ALS or spent their time visiting with the Airmen. The right side will recognize the six enlisted Air Force Metal of Honor winners." Future plans may include a row of names of the Altus AFB enlisted purple heart recipients.

The ALS cadres are looking for a company that can engrave the names on the red bricks. Additional landscaping is also planned for around the flag pole.

Government Military Housing, manager of the privatized housing at Altus AFB, donated the bricks for the project.
