Base housing remodel, new constructions moving along Published Oct. 2, 2007 By Senior Airman Aldric Borders 97th AMW Public Affairs ALTUS AFB -- As Nov. 1 approaches, base housing residents can look forward to the completion of a 42 home renovation. These homes will be reserved for Airmen with the ranks of O-4 and O-5. A total of 385 homes will be renovated within the next 5 years. The newly renovated homes are updated with new appliances, cabinets, sinks, light fixtures, ceiling fans and mini blinds. They also have new ceramic tile in the kitchen and bathrooms as well as vinyl and carpet throughout the rest of the home. Each home also receives a new air conditioning and heating unit. "Eventually all the old and updated homes will be demolished within the next 10 years to make room for the construction of new homes," said Jackye Sanders, GMH Community Manager. As for new housing, 50 new homes are currently being built in the Bicentennial area which will be reserved for Airmen with ranks ranging from airman basic to technical sergeant. They are scheduled to be ready for occupancy by March 2008. Construction of 41 new homes for master sergeants and senior master sergeants is also scheduled to be completed by March 2008. All of the new housing in Great Plains will eventually be occupied only by Airmen with ranks of airman basic through technical sergeant as officers transition out during PCS cycles.
