Altus AFB participated in Military Saves Week, during which the Airman and Family Readiness Center hosted a number of financial classes for Airmen Feb. 24 - 28, 2014.

Military Saves Week is a DOD-sponsored campaign for military members and their families to learn about healthy financial habits that promote better savings behavior.

Esley Holmes, Airman and Family Readiness Center financial advisor, taught some of the classes to Airmen, including overall financial health, credit card debt and successful savings.

"Military Saves Week is an opportunity to educate people about behavior change and one of those behaviors is to start thinking about saving versus spending," said Holmes.

Lifestyle changes like this target Airmen young and old.

"The satisfaction I get is the opportunity to teach them at a young age the proper money management skills so they can build on that and have a better future for them and their families," said Holmes.

While Military Saves Week highlights these behaviors, it's always good to keep them in mind to help reduce the stressors in your life, said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Aaron Tessmann, 54th Air Refueling Squadron boom operator.

"I think it really comes down to stress in your life-- you have to reduce your stressors. I don't know if I just realize that more in time because I have two young kids. Finances put a lot of stress on stuff. It's the number one thing for divorce, so if you want a happy lifestyle at home you have to make finances easy, and that all goes into a healthier lifestyle," said Tessmann.
