Altus AFB aviation history
In celebration of Aviation History Month, Altus Air Force Base reflects on 80 years of excellence in air mobility training since its activation in 1943. Known as “Mobility’s Hometown,” the 97th Air Mobility Wing trains more than 2,000 students annually, including international allies, on the C-17 Globemaster III, KC-135 Stratotanker, and KC-46 Pegasus. Continuing its legacy, the wing trains 70% of mobility aircrew to become adaptive and skilled mobility warriors for the U.S. and its allies.
