Altus designates Comat Airman's Grove
ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – Col. Jon T. Thomas, 97th Air Mobility Wing commander, officially dedicates an area within the Wings of Freedom Park April 7 as Combat Airmen’s Grove. The area, which includes several trees and a bench donated by the Altus Military Affairs Committee, is dedicated to the Airmen of the Mighty 97th who have died in a combat zone in service to the nation. Staff Sgt. Andrew S. Bubacz was the first and only Altus Airman to date to die while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom; his name is engraved on the granite bench in honor of his sacrifice.
