Members of the 97th Air Mobility Wing safely evacuated and recovered 27 aircraft from Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, due to potential severe weather in the local area, April 15-16, 2024.

Airmen evacuated the aircraft to the Sacramento McClellan Airport in McClellan Park, California, due to the airfield’s ability to accommodate all 27 aircraft.

The evacuation allowed for the C-17 Globemaster III, KC-135 Stratotanker, and KC-46 Pegasus Formal Training Units from the 97th Air Mobility Wing to maintain student training off-station in all three aircraft during the predicted severe weather.

All evacuated aircraft and aircrews safely returned to Altus Air Force Base during the afternoon of April 16 and resumed training in the local area.
