The "Mighty 97th" Wing Staff is directly responsible to the Wing Commander for coordinating, planning, and directing wing activities across nineteen Wing Staff Agencies.  The Wing Staff consists of over one hundred personnel with a $1.2M budget providing command and staff support for the nation's premiere Air Mobility Training Center.  The staff are responsible for exercise and contingency deployments for Wing Staff personnel and represents the 97 AMW at a variety of community events.

Command Post

The 97th AMW Command Post  processes time-critical Headquarters, United States Air Force, Air Education & Training Command, Air Force Reserve Command, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Nuclear Command Emergency Action messages and reports that are crucial to national defense. Disseminates emergency mass notification alerts to ensure base populous safety & awareness of critical impending threats. Directs command & control functions for the Wing's 43 C-17 Globemaster III, KC-46 Pegasus, & KC-135 Stratotanker Formal Training Unit aircraft by flight-following 5,300 sorties & 24,000 flight hours per year.

Protocol

Protocol Office serves as the protocol advisor to the wing commander. Provides support and guidance for visiting dignitaries, military ceremonies, conferences, official meetings, briefings and social functions.

Historian Office

The wing historian’s job is one of research, historic preservation, and advisory. It is the historian’s job to maintain and retrieve historical documents and artifacts and to be knowledgeable of their wing’s history. The historian also documents and catalogs events, creating a history of the wing for the Air Force History and Museums Program. The wing historian’s vision is to inspire servicemen and women through heritage through historical analysis.

Inspector General (IG)
The Inspector General independently assesses and reports on the overall readiness, economy, efficiency, and the state of discipline of the Department of the Air Force to the Secretary of the Air Force through specified inquiries, investigations and inspections. SAF/IG ensures effective inspection and investigative systems, which includes administrative guidance and oversight for the military criminal investigative organization (MCIO) mission conducted by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). The Secretary of the Air Force retains ultimate responsibility for all policies related to the Department of the Air Force.  Within his or her areas of responsibility, SAF/IG prepares policies for approval and issues official guidance/procedures via official Air Force publications to ensure implementation of those policies.
