Civilian leaders recently took to the skies during a 2016 leadership class at Altus Air Force Base. The class, designed to give them a more in depth look at the mission of the mighty 97th, had the opportunity to get on board an actual C-17 and participate in a training mission. There they learned the technical details and safety requirements of a cargo transport mission. There they learned the technical details and safety requirements of a cargo transport mission. Gary Friedt, organizer of the incentive flight, thinks it's important to experience these things firsthand.

"Not everybody sees the full mission until they're inside the airplane. if we're not doing the airplane, Altus Air Force Base wouldn't be here."

Twenty-four civilians were nominated to attend the annual leadership class, specifically designed for aspiring civilian leaders in our workforce. Medical Readiness Manager and class attendee Karie Goswick said this is an excellent opportunity to network with other civilians.

"I think it's awesome. Not only did we get to experience ourself, but with the other people we're with so, I mean, there's new friendships there so that's cool."

And on a C-17 you build friendships one maneuver at a time. Reporting for the 97th Air mobility Wing, I'm Airman James Johnson.
