  • 97 AMW Leaders deliver cookies to Airmen

    On Dec. 11, 2020, leaders from the 97th Air Mobility Wing delivered bags of cookies to Airmen living in the dorms. This was part of the base’s annual Operation Cookie Drop, which is held to improve morale during the holidays.
  • Recycling: Do it on Base!

    As the saying goes, every gray cloud has a silver lining. Recently, Balfour Beatty, the base’s privatized housing company made the hard decision to forego their residential recycling program. However, through a combined effort between 97th Air Mobility Wing leaders and Balfour Beatty, the Altus Air Force Base recycling center will allow the recycling effort to continue. So, in this case, Altus Air Force Base’s silver lining is its very own recycling program.
  • First in AETC: KC-46s refuel F-16 fighters

    In a first for Air Education and Training Command and the 56th Air Refueling Squadron, two KC-46 Pegasus aircraft from the 97th Air Mobility Wing at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, along with 10 F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 49th Wing at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, teamed up in the skies over New Mexico to train and practice air refueling operations.
  • 97 MDG highlights readiness to AETC surgeon general team

    Medical leadership from Air Education and Training Command in Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, visited Altus Air Force Base to take part in an immersion tour of the 97th Medical Group, Dec. 3, 2020. The immersion tour showcased the 97th MDG’s readiness capabilities to Col. Michael Higgins, Air Education and Training Command command surgeon, and Chief Master Sgt. Janet Woodard, AETC chief, medical enlisted force for the office of the command surgeon. The tour focused on the COVID-19 screening process, surveillance testing plans and general readiness of the 97th MDG.

    Arriving at an installation and acquiring housing can be a challenge for any member of the military, and the hassles usually don’t end with getting the keys. To aid in housing challenges Airmen face, Air Force leaders created a new service-wide position called the privatized housing resident advocate.
