  • National Nurses Week: a healthy dose of appreciation

    Every year, May 6-12 is recognized as National Nurses Week, a weeklong celebration ending on International Nurses Day, May 12th. For nurses of Mobility’s Hometown, National Nurses Week was filled with appreciation, gifts and food. The 97th Medical Group members showed their appreciation to the nursing staff by giving them all goody bags and treating them to a free lunch.
  • 927th MXG Superintendent shares insight with females in aircraft maintenance

    Female maintainers of the 97th Maintenance Group gathered together for a mentorship luncheon with U.S. Air Force Reserve Chief Master Sgt. Erin Willis, 927th MXG superintendent, May 6, 2021. This luncheon was an opportunity for members to gain insight and perspective from someone who has climbed the ranks of aviation maintenance, both in the civilian and military sectors.

  • The A&FRC provides financial readiness tips for Airmen

    In the month of April, the Mighty 97th focused on Financial Freedom across the wing and held night classes on base to provide helpful tips and tricks for Airmen to become financially successful.
  • Local students experience AF STEM in Mobility’s Hometown

    Members of the Altus AFB Airmen Leadership Group hosted several science, technology, engineering, and math activities also known as STEM for a group of third through eighth-grade students from Snyder Public Schools, April 29, 2021, at Altus Air Force Base. The Wing Innovation Advancement Center partnered with the base library to build and supply materials for the children to use during their STEM activities. The WIAC is a location where Airmen can learn new skills to upgrade or improve practices and processes to make tomorrow’s Air Force faster and smarter.
  • AAFB Spark Cell connects 'A Galaxy Far, Far Away' with 'Mobility's Hometown'

    Senior Airman Aaron Yohannan, 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels facilities operator, and Airman 1st Class Aidan Clark, 97th Training Squadron boom operator student, dedicate their free time to creating Star Wars lightsabers, helmets, and other replicas at the Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma Spark Cell.
  • Local students enjoy “Mobility’s Hometown” culture during base visit

  • Airmen share financial freedom advice with elementary students

    Members of the 97th Air Mobility Wing read youth financial education books to 3rd graders at L. Mendel Rivers Elementary School during Military Financial Freedom Month, April 26 – 30, 2021. This was part of an initiative by the Airmen and Family Readiness Center to teach the importance of saving and spread financial literacy to local youths. Each day, new volunteers from the base came and read to the children about different financial topics including: working, saving, giving, spending, integrity and debt.
  • 97th AMW Fire Department “houses” new fire truck

    Airmen “house” a new fire truck, April 26, 2021, at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma. The “housing” tradition stems from the 1830s when fire companies used horse-drawn fire carts that could not be backed into the fire house, causing firemen and local community members to manually push the fire cart into the fire house.
