ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 97th Air Mobility Wing hosted its first Honorary Commander Immersion Day, Oct. 14, 2020.
The tour was built to immerse the honorary commanders in the various mission sets around the wing. For this immersion day, they focused solely on the 97th Mission Support Group. The group provides support for C-17 Globemaster III, KC-135 Stratotanker, and KC-46 Pegasus aircraft and base-wide infrastructure, to include communications, civil engineering, law enforcement, fire protection, contracting, disaster response, environmental, and several more.
The tour started with the wing mission brief by U.S. Air Force Col. Jason Pavelschak, the 97th AMW vice commander. The briefing is a summary of the accumulated efforts and readiness of the wing, whose mission is “We Train Exceptional Mobility Airmen.”
On the tour, the 14 honorary commanders visited several squadrons from the 97th MSG, to include the 97th Civil Engineer Squadron, 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron, and the 97th Security Forces Squadron.
Every quarter, the honorary commanders will receive the opportunity to learn about one of the wing’s groups. This fosters positive relations with the surrounding communities, increases public awareness and understanding of the Air Force, and how Altus Air Force Base contributes to the mobility mission.
