June 19, or Juneteenth, is recognized as the day commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. This year, and for the first time in history, Juneteenth was recognized as an official federal holiday across the United States.

In celebration of this holiday, Airmen from the 97th Air Mobility Wing Diversity and Inclusion team hosted a Juneteenth barbecue at the dorms. This event invited all members from the 97th AMW to enjoy homemade food and to gain a shared sense of culture while honoring the past. Events such as these help build a sense of wingmanship and continue to develop a culture of shared diversity and identity for Airmen worldwide.
