ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- A Native American Heritage month event, called “Living off the Land”, was held at the community garden to teach Airmen and their families about Native American traditional crops and how to grow them at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, Nov. 10, 2021.
Members were educated on the different types of traditional crops grown and consumed by Native Americans. The most common crops grown were corn, beans and squash; these are referred to as the Three Sisters because they all grow and benefit from one another.
