The 97th Air Mobility Wing vice commander, Col. Patrick Brady-Lee, alongside the Blue Knights Honor Guard, attended an Altus Junior High School Veterans Day assembly, Nov. 9, 2022.

Veterans Day has been observed federally for 68 years on Nov. 11 to honor military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

During his speech, Brady-Lee emphasized the importance of Veterans Day, service and the sacrifices that come along with it.

“I believe that Veterans Day is about honoring,” he said. “As we get closer to Veterans Day, I would ask you to simply take a moment and think about those who served. Think about those folks who are currently serving and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. And really think about what it means to serve.”

The Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma Blue Knights Honor Guard presented the colors alongside the AJHS choir singing the national anthem.

“For me, it's very inspirational,” said Melissa Fourroux, AJHS principal. “I want our kids to see the partnership with the base. Altus AFB is a part of their lives here; it’s important for (students) to be connected with them and honor our veterans.”
