ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 97th Force Support Squadron manpower and organization office hosted a “Donuts and Development” meeting at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, July 29, 2021.
The meetings are an ongoing series focused on providing useful information to Airmen of the 97th Air Mobility Wing. This session focused on the role of the manpower office and what Airmen need to know about the manpower process.
“The manpower office maintains the approved organization structures, consults on Airmen powered by innovative ideas, works on continuous process improvement projects and management advisory services and studies,” said Master Sgt. Matthew Sims, 97th FSS manpower and organization office superintendent. “We also advise commanders on how best to manage resources and improve units.”
Sims added that this particular session was targeted at civilian supervisors with varying levels of military experience.
“The purpose of this meeting was to get us out in front of civilian supervisors and address some of the issues that they may not have been aware of had they not been prior military,” he said. “We explained their options as far as managing their manpower requirements.”
Marci King, 97th Force Support Squadron civilian training and development specialist, leads the meetings every month. King said she chose the topic of manpower this month because many people were asking manpower related questions at previous meetings.
“I was excited to have the manpower office at the meeting because I didn't understand what it entailed and I didn't know a lot about it, period,” said King. “Now I have a general concept of manpower and how much time and effort goes into it.”
The next Donuts and Development session is scheduled for Sept. 23, 2021 and will focus on “individual development.”
