97 AMW to conduct active shooter exercise Published Aug. 5, 2022 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Airmen from the 97th Air Mobility Wing will conduct an active shooter response exercise at Rivers Elementary School on August 10, 2022. All base gates will close for approximately 10 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. All personnel are encouraged to avoid entry or exit during this time. Base services will be limited during these hours due to the complex nature of the exercise. Base patrons may also hear simulated gun fire around Rivers Elementary School, exercise alerts over the giant voice system and alert radio messages between 8.30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Emergency response vehicles and first responders will respond accordingly during the exercise.Exercises of this nature are critical to evaluate Department of Defense response actions to a lockdown incident and to prepare in the most realistic manner. Base and community personnel will continue to focus on improving response plans for the safety of everyone in the area.
