  • Altus Maintenance leads first KC-46 landing gear strut removal

    The KC-46A Pegasus will take off and land approximately 1,250 times a year during mobility training at the 97th Air Mobility Wing. In turn, this creates strain and wear on the aircraft parts, something the Altus maintenance team constantly keeps close eyes on. The 97th AMW Maintenance Group KC-46 ATeam accomplished a milestone task for the KC-46 program Oct. 8, 2019, when removing a KC-46 landing gear strut for the first time at Altus Air Force Base, Okla.
  • Mobility’s Hometown hosts 19 AF command team

    Mobility’s Hometown welcomed distinguished guests, U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Craig Wills, the 19th Air Force commander, and U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Erik Thompson, the 19th Air Force command chief, to the 97th Air Mobility Wing for a tour on Nov. 4 through Nov. 6, 2019, at Altus Air Force Base, Okla.

  • Mobility’s Hometown partners with McChord, sends meals to Honduras

    Nearly 42 tons of rice and soy meals were gathered, packaged and flown to Honduras as part of the Department of Defense’s mission in support of humanitarian efforts, where they collaborate to donate and ship meals to countries in need through the Denton Program. The Mighty 97th was responsible for the safety and packaging of the meals onto a C-17 Globemaster III scheduled to deliver the food to Honduras, Oct. 24, 2019, at Altus Air Force Base, Okla.

    The 97th Civil Engineer Squadron received its newest addition to the fire truck fleet, a hazardous material rescue engine (Rescue 9), on Oct. 23, 2019, at Altus Air Force Base, Okla.
  • Mighty 97th kicks-off CFC fundraiser

    Every year, the Mighty 97th participates in one of the largest and most successful employee fundraising campaigns in the world, the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), and this year’s fundraiser will be kicking-off on Oct. 21, 2019, ending on Dec. 6, 2019.

    Each year, Airmen from the Mighty 97th have the opportunity to tour local farms and essential pieces of the Altus community during Farm City Week. One of the events from this year’s festivities was touring the Altus-Lugert Dam, located in Quartz Mountain State Park, Okla., on Oct. 11, 2019.

    This week is Fire Prevention Week and the Altus Air Force Base fire department is turning up the heat by spreading awareness to military members and their families. On Sept. 24, 2019, the Altus AFB fire department took a special trip to the Child Development Center and offered children the opportunity to meet first responders while learning about the importance of fire safety.

    Brittany Boccher, the 2017 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year, has lived a busy life and somehow makes it look easy. Boccher is an entrepreneur, U.S. Air Force spouse, Wounded Warrior Caregiver, military family advocate and mother of two, all while authoring a workbook and lesson to advocate towards spouses around the country. On August 27, 2019 while touring bases, Boccher made a special visit to the Mighty 97th by hosting an interactive workshop which helps spouses in need find a sense of purpose.
