    When one considers the similarities between the 97th Air Mobility Wing and Maj. (Ret) Jerry Zimmerman, it is no surprise that both ended up in the same place. While the modern version of the 97th Air Mobility Wing is busy training “Exceptional Mobility Airmen” for the KC-135 Stratotanker, C-17 Globemaster III and KC-46 Pegasus aircraft, both the wing and Zimmerman have bomber legacies.
  • Altus AFB hosts DSD fair, educates Airmen

    Representatives from 10 different Air Force Developmental Special Duties gathered to educate Airmen interested in taking special duty positions Nov. 6, 2020 at the Freedom Community Center at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma. The DSD Job Fair gave 23 representatives the opportunity to inform more than 50 Altus AFB Airmen on ways broaden their military careers.

  • The Key Spouse Program; unlocking family resiliency

    Deployments and temporary assignments do not only affect military members. Spouses get left behind and can often feel isolated and lost. Having to deal with the daily grind of everyday life alone can become a daunting task. That is where the 97th Air Mobility Wing’s Key Spouse Program comes in. The role of the Key Spouse Program is to assist the spouses of military members through communicating, relaying information, and providing referrals to necessary support agencies. Currently, there are approximately 52 key spouses assigned to commanders across the wing. These key spouse teams are entirely made up of volunteers that report to their respective unit commanders for their vision of their squadron’s program.

    The 97th Communications Squadron is tasked with protecting Altus Air Force Base’s cybersecurity year-round, whether it’s from aircraft in the sky or network client systems on the ground. The 97th CS Airmen ensure all forms of communications are operational and secure in order to aid in the wing’s mission of training the next generation of exceptional mobility Airmen.
  • One Force, Many Origins: A1C Delos Santos develops AF connections

    Nationwide recruitment is the lifeblood of the United States military; it allows members from across the nation to be trained for and assigned to military missions around the world. For some service members, this process is reversed, where they come from countries outside the U.S. and then join the military. U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Antonette Joanne Delos Santos, an air freight specialist assigned to the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron, was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. She spent the first 21 years of her life there and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering before moving with her family to the U.S. in 2018.
